The Hinsons

I don't have a lot of information on the Hinsons. What we know begins with Samuel Hinson.

Samuel Hinson

Samuel Hinson was born in Delaware, in 1882. Samuel married Lena Mosley in 1900 and had two sons, Cornelius Samuel Hinson and DeWitt Thomas Hinson.

Cornelius Samuel Hinson

Cornelius ("Neal") Samuel Hinson was born February 16, 1902 in Wilmington, Delaware. Cornelius, who was self emplyed, married Mamie Finney and Josephine McCurdy, but had no children from either marriage. Cornelius died August 1985 in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Josephine died March 11, 2000, also in Atlantic City, New Jersey.

DeWitt Thomas Hinson

DeWitt Thomas Hinson was born on February 22, 1904 in Delaware. He married Ella Corinne Williams and had three sons, DeWitt Jr., David and Donald.

DeWitt was a Master Mason in the Most Worshipful Grand Lodge of the Most Ancient and Honorable Fraternity Free and Accepted Masons of the State of New York (Carthaginian Lodge No. 47, Brooklyn, New York) 1 August 5944 A.L. 1944 A.D.

DeWitt Thomas Hinson, Jr.

DeWitt Thomas Hinson, Jr. served in the Navy. After leaving the Navy he ran a medical lab on Eastern Parkway in Brooklyn, New York.

David Cornelius Hinson

David Cornelius Hinson also served in the Navy during World War II. He later worked as an engineer for Airborne Instruments Laboratory in Deer Park (Long Island), New York.

Donald Livingston Hinson

  • High School and College Athlete - Ran track (sprints and long distance) for Boys High in Brooklyn, New York and City College of New York (CCNY).
  • Education - Graduated the City College of New York with a Bachelor of Science in Pre-Med. Entered Officers Reserve Training as a 2nd Lieutenant.
  • Fraternal - Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated, Eta Chapter
  • Military Service - Served as a 2nd and 1st Lieutenant in Korea, and then spent 30 years in the U.S. Army Reserves, where he retired as a Colonel.
  • Occupation - Research Chemist: Worked as the Head of Materials Testing Laboratory and Chemistry Laboratory for research and development in electronics at the Freed Transformer Company in Brooklyn, New York. On June 13, 1961, Donald L. Hinson and Robert B. Feuchtbaum, employees of the Freed Transformer Company, Inc., were granted U.S. Patent # 2988535, as co-inventors of a process for "Curing Epoxide Resins". The patent was later cited in the granting of 7 additional patents.
  • Masonic - Prince Hall Ashlar Lodge No 94

Today, some of the children, grandchildren and great grandchildren of DeWitt Jr., David and Donald still live in the New York City area. Others have dispersed as far away as Florida and Texas.

Donald L. Hinson, Jr.
